Outdoor Swimming Pools And Lidos Around Chesire
There’s not much as liberating and freeing as swimming in the great outdoors, away from the often stifling humidity of a swimming pool and the haze of chlorine in the enclosed space.
While swimming pools and gyms have been allowed to reopen from 25 July, when the weather picks up, you might be more tempted to find somewhere cooler to take a dip. Sadly, there isn’t much of a beach in Manchester, but around Cheshire, there are a few outdoor swimming pools!
Nantwich Outdoor Brine Pool, Cheshire
Nantwich’s lido is one of the few remaining inland brine pools in the UK and has been open since 1935, still supplied by one of the town’s natural salt springs. The water is kept at around 23°C, but can often be warmer. There’s an on-site cafe and vending machines for snacks and drinks.
It is usually open from May to October, and there is a timetable of morning and afternoon public
Hathersage Swimming Pool, Derbyshire
The Derbyshire village of Hathersage, in the beautiful Peak District countryside, is home to a large heated swimming pool. It is maintained at 28°C during the summer season, and for the brave, there are cold water sessions held in winter.
Booking is required, and there are lane swimming and family slots available, and the cafe and toilets will be open.
Marbury Pool, Cheshire
Sadly, this open-air pool surrounded by woodland and lawned gardens in the heart of Marbury Country Park on the outskirts of Northwich, will be remaining closed, but it will reopen again at some point.
As well as a children’s paddling pool, a play area, and picnic tables, there is a springboard diving board, as well as a platform. But be forewarned, it is not a heated pool!
