5 Top Tips For Clean Swimming Pools

Maintenance is a vital part of owning a swimming pool and it’s important to know what to do in order to keep the water fresh, clean and inviting - and ready to use whenever you want to use it.

Your pool will have a skimmer and basket installed on the side somewhere, which skims the surface of the water before any debris or other contaminants fall to the bottom of the pool. Make sure that you empty it regularly, as any debris in the basket can make it harder for it to skim the water.

Cleaning the filter is also an essential job and should be done a few times a year depending on how much you use the pool. Signs to look out for include funny smells in the pool, a sluggish hose cleaner or the drain in your in-ground pool has an obstruction.

Something else to look out for is algae around the sides of the pool. Give the sides a good scrub every other week or so and this should keep on top of the problem.

One top tip for keeping the water in your pool clean is to put a tennis ball or two in there from time to time. These can help soak up any natural oils, sun cream and so on that can be left behind after a long swim.

Power washing the tiles or decking around the edges of the pool is also advisable, since they can become quite dangerous if not kept properly clean and allowed to dry out.
